About Our Pastor

Sammy Taylor has faithfully served as pastor of Mountain View Baptist Church for the past 47 years. He began his ministry at Mountain View in 1978, at just 26 years old, when the church called him to his first full-time pastorate. Under his leadership, Mountain View has grown into a church committed to reaching and teaching people for the glory of God.

Born in Russellville, Alabama, in 1951, Sammy graduated from Belgreen High School in 1969. After high school, he served six years in the Alabama National Guard before entering the retail industry, managing TG&Y stores across Alabama, Tennessee, and Mississippi. During this time, Sammy felt God’s call to ministry and returned to North Alabama to pursue it.

Sammy earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work from the University of North Alabama in the early 1980s and later received a Master of Divinity from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary in 1990.

Sammy has been married to the former Judy Williford of Hackleburg, Alabama, for 54 years. They have two children. Their daughter, Corrie Taylor Clay, is married to Shane Clay, a teacher at Phil Campbell High School. Corrie is passionate about women’s ministry and travels throughout Alabama and surrounding states speaking to women’s groups through her ministry, Filling the Gap Ministries. Corrie and Shane live in Russellville with their two children, Canaan and Judah.

Sammy and Judy’s son, Kyle Taylor, serves as the assistant principal at Russellville Middle School. He and his wife, Katie, are active members at Mountain View, where Kyle serves as a deacon and discipleship leader and Katie serves on the media ministry team.

Through nearly five decades of ministry, Sammy Taylor has remained steadfast in his mission to lead Mountain View Baptist Church in faithfully serving Christ and the community.
