About Our Pastor

Sammy Taylor has been the pastor of Mountain View Baptist Church for the past 46 years. Sammy came to Mountain View at the age of 26. It was his first full time pastorate. Under his leadership, Mountain View Baptist Church has become a church focused on reaching and teaching people for the Glory of God. Sammy was born in Russellville, Alabama in 1951. He finished Belgreen High School in 1969. After finishing high school, he joined the Alabama National Guard for 6 years. He then went on to manage numerous TG&Y retail stores in Alabama, Tennessee, and Mississippi. While in the retail business, he accepted the call of ministry on his life and moved back to North Alabama. In 1978, Mountain View called him as their pastor. During the early 1980s, Sammy received a Bachelor's Degree in Social Work from the University of North Alabama. He then received a Master of Divinity from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary in 1990.  Sammy is married to the former Judy Williford of Hackleburg, Alabama. They have been married for 53 years. They have a daughter, Corrie Taylor Clay, who is married to Shane. Corrie is actively involved in women's ministry. Corrie speaks to women's groups all over the state of Alabama and other surrounding states. Her ministry is called "Filling The Gap Ministries" Her husband Shane is a teacher and Head Varsity Boys Basketball Coach at Phil Campbell High School. Corrie and Shane live in Russellville, Alabama. Sammy and Judy have a son, Kyle Taylor, who is married to Katie. Kyle and Katie live in Russellville, Alabama, where Kyle teaches US Government/Economics and coaches football at Russellville High School.  Kyle and Katie are both actively involved in ministry at Mountain View.  Kyle serves as a deacon, and discipleship leader at Mountain View.  Katie serves on the media ministry team. Sammy and Judy have one grandson, Canaan Clay, and one granddaughter, Judah Clay
